Spice It Up!!!!

by Olivia

My tip is have fun with any healthy food you'remaking, if it'
s plain and boring you'll never enjoy it and you'll go back to the old eating habbits, so spice it up.Coming from a 12 year old girl I should know it would be boring if all I had was greens everyday, make it different,
mix match colors !Make it playful then for sure you'll be on your way to healthy eating!

Ready Steady Rice!

by Mommy79
(England, UK)

1 cup rice = 1 cup water

Wash the rice until you have drained the excess starch.

Place on top of cooker or use a rice cooker. Add either bay leaves or cardamon pods or cinnamon sticks for fragrance.

Bring the rice to boil then put it on low heat until tender. Drain.

Serve it to kids with a dallop of ketchup!

The white and the red look real pretty!

Thank you! Red and white rice sounds delicious and kids will love it. Use a low salt/sugar ketchup to make it healthier, and wholegrain rice instead of refined white rice - the colour is a pale beige, and it still looks good with red sauce.

paprika- 1/4 tsp
onion- 1 small chopped
tomato- 2 medium peeled
olive oil - 2 1/2 tbsp
coriander powder- 1/4 tsp
salt- to taste
ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp

Boil together all ingredients, minus the oil, with 2 cups of water. You may add cut potatoes, green peas, yam, broccoli etc. Do not cover while boiling.

One the meat and veg are tender, turn on the high heat and dry the mutton stock so that only half the stock remains. At this point, add the oil, and keep stirring on high flame for 10 minutes. Simmer for 10 minutes, and serve with rice, or on its own. Kids love it!

Indian Cooking

by Somya Arora
(Australia)

It's not that hard to make Indian food!

Things you need to use.
1. Potatoes - 1 per person
2. Haldi (turmeric)
3. Oil
4. Fry pan
5. Salt
6.spice

Method:
Peel the potatoes and cut into little pieces. Put the oil in the fry pan and heat, but don't let it get so hot that it burns the food. Cook the potatoes for a few minutes then sprinkle in some haldi (turmeric) and a little curry powder - you can get it from a supermarket or Indian shop. Carry on cooking until the potatoes are cooked, sprinkle on a little salt, mix it all up and it's ready. Serve it with rice or tortilla wrap. ENJOY!

This dish is yummy - hope you will enjoy it!

super-fast and healthy rice recipe

by Sonia Parras Konrad
(Des Moines Iowa)

My kids call it "right rice"

90 seconds fast pre-cooked microwave rice
1/2 can of peas
1/2 can of corn
1 cup of grilled chicken breast (buy grilled chicken breast bag resealeable)
1 boiled egg per plate
salt to taste
2 tbs of butter

Get bag in microwave (90 seconds)
Butter in pan medium hit
Cook 1 cup of chicken breast
Mix rice, peas, corn for 4-5 minutes

Serve. Cut boiled egg in little pieces and mix 1 per serving

Enjoy!!

Hi Sonia, thanks for your healthy rice recipe. It sounds delicious. To make it healthier, use brown rice - it takes longer to cook but is far more nutritious than the microwave rice as it contains the whole grain. I find that kids love its nutty flavour and prefer it to white rice.
Thanks for contributing to the site!
best wishes
