Getting kids to eat veg!

by Alison
(UK)

Do you have a problem getting your kids to eat veg? My son is great at eating what I think of as "traditional" winter veg - loves cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts - even spinach! However he hates most raw fruit and veg including salads and summer veg - courgettes (zucchini), peppers etc. So when we have barbecues in the summer it's difficult to get anything decent into him.

But I've discovered if I stir fry very finely chopped veg (I use the food processor) and then add cous cous, he'll eat it - and because I always over-estimate how much to make there's usually some leftover for lunch the next day. It makes me feel better that at least he's eating some veg with the meat from the barbecue,(and no he won't eat kebabs made with veg either!) In fact I made a mince filling for pancakes yesterday and shredded courgettes and peppers in that too and he ate it without a murmur - though he did keep asking what was in it so I think he suspects what I'm up to!
