Eat less meat - save lives, save the planet

Yes, eating less meat is good for our health and good for the earth, say Friends of the Earth in a new report.
Where the average meat-eater gets through 7-10 x 70g portions a week, switching to 2-3 portions of meat a week is enough to save over 45,000 lives a year in the UK.
Particular culprits are bacon and smoked and processed meats, which are known to have a role in upping the risk of bowel cancer.
Turning to a diet that's higher in fresh fruit and vegetables rather than meat means we'd consume less saturated fat and salt, both of which are bad for health and can contribute to heart disease, strokes and some cancers.
It all makes sense. If you enjoy meat, buy good quality, organic meats in small amounts and serve them as a treat. Day to day, make the most of those veggies, and do your health a good turn.
