Eat healthy on holiday

Going off on vacation is lovely, but don't leave your healthy eating principles behind. Follow these tips, and you can eat healthier on holiday.

  • Go for grilled, broiled, poached or steamed foods, rather than deep-fried.
  • Choose chicken and seafood rather than red meats.
  • Tomato-based sauces are lower in fat than cream ones.
  • Ask for dressings and sauces to be served separately, so that you can decide exactly how much you want.
  • You can knock a lot of fat off your daily intake by having vegetables and salads served without dressings and butter.
  • Cut back on French fries and have rice or a baked potato instead.
  • Go easy on alcohol, and drink plenty of water.
  • Have fresh fruit for breakfast.
  • Take care at the help-yourself buffet. Use a smaller plate, and don't pile it high.
  • Have some treats, but limit them to one or two a day, and eat healthily the rest of time.
  • Remember to take a stroll before dinner, and swim a few lengths of the pool after breakfast. Exercise is an important part of a healthy approach to life.
  • Enjoy the whole experience of being away from home - savour your surroundings, the temperature, the sights and smells. Don't put the whole focus on food.
  • Relax and take it easy. Eat slowly and mindfully and really savour the new tastes and textures of your meals.
